On the fifteenth anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution, and for the second consecutive year without Assad's rule, we revisit the beginnings and the subsequent profound changes to the lives of Syrians, to underscore the importance of the testimonies, experiences, and documents they have preserved chronicling this pivotal phase in Syria’s history.Individual memories, narratives of survivors, and the lived experiences shared across various platforms available to Syrians over the past decade and a half constitute a vast and critically important repository of knowledge for understanding the history and transformations of the Syrian revolution throughout that period.We have worked and continue to work at the Syrian Archive to preserve and protect these memories, not only as an act of resistance against forgetfulness, but also to prevent it from being ignored in any attempt to impose alternative narratives. We do this out of loyalty to ourselves and to the truth, out of commitment to justice for victims, and out of a sense of responsibility toward future generations, who have the right to know and the right to a better future.Over the course of more than a decade since its founding, the Syrian Archive team has managed to collect and verify open-source materials, making it an important source of evidence regarding human rights violations and crimes committed against Syrians, and a tool supporting efforts toward justice and accountability, which form the solid foundation for the hoped-for process of reconstruction and stability after the end of conflict.These materials offer as well a multimedia account of lived experiences and the efforts of journalists, particularly through citizen journalism, which was the only means available to convey the reality of the repression and violence faced by regions rising up against Assad.Today, at the Syrian Archive, we can only look to the past as a driving force toward building a more dignified future for Syrians, and we reaffirm our commitment to preserving memory, so that the archive remains one of the tools that contribute to the pursuit of justice, the advancement of accountability, and the fight against impunity in Syria.

في الذكرى الخامسة عشرة لانطلاق شرارة الثورة السورية، وللعام الثاني على التوالي من دون حكم الأسد، نستعيد البدايات وما تلاها من تغييرات عميقة في حياة السوريين والسوريات، للتأكيد على أهمية ما حفظوه من شهادات وتجارب ووثائق تؤرخ تلك المرحلة المفصلية من تاريخ سوريا.تشكل الذاكرة الفردية وروايات الناجين والناجيات والتجارب التي عاشوها وشاركوها على مختلف المنصات المتاحة لهم على مدى عقد ونصف، مخزوناً معرفياً هائل الحجم وبالغ الأهمية لفهم تاريخ وتحولات الثورة السورية طوال تلك الفترة.&nbsp;عملنا ونعمل في الأرشيف السوري على حفظ هذه الذاكرة، وحمايتها ليس فقط كفعلٍ مقاومٍ للنسيان، بل أيضاً لنحول دون تجاهلها ضمن أي محاولةٍ لفرض سردياتٍ بديلة. نفعل ذلك وفاءً لأنفسنا وللحقيقة، وإنصافاً للضحايا، ومسؤوليةً تجاه أجيال قادمة لها علينا حق المعرفة وحق مستقبلٍ أفضل.على مدى أكثر من عشرة أعوام منذ تأسيسه، تمكن فريق الأرشيف السوري من جمع المواد مفتوحة المصدر والتحقق منها لتصبح مصدراً مهماً للأدلة حول انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان والجرائم المرتكبة بحق السوريين والسوريات، وأداةً داعمة لجهود العدالة والمحاسبة والتي تشكل الأساس الصلب لعملية إعادة الإعمار والاستقرار المأمول ما بعد انتهاء الصراع.&nbsp;تقدم هذه المواد أيضاً سرداً متعدد الوسائط للتجارب المعاشة، ولجهود الصحفيين والصحفيات لاسيما ما تم توثيقه عبر صحافة المواطن التي كانت في مرحلةٍ من المراحل الوسيلة الممكنة الوحيدة لنقل صورة ما تتعرض له المناطق المنتفضة ضد الأسد من قمعٍ وعنف.اليوم، لايسعنا في الأرشيف السوري أن ننظر إلى الماضي إلا كدافعٍ نحو بناء مستقبل أكثر كرامة للسوريين والسوريات ونؤكد التزامنا بحفظ الذاكرة، ليبقى الأرشيف أحد الأدوات التي تساهم في تطبيق العدالة وتعزيز المساءلة ومقاومة الإفلات من العقاب في سوريا.
