Tomorrow, on 4 July 2025, a panel of judges at the highest court in France will hear arguments about whether former President of Syria Bashar al-Assad should be legally immune from prosecution for his alleged role in the August 2013 chemical weapons attacks on Adra, Douma, and Ghouta in Syria.&nbsp;This hearing&nbsp;at the Cour de Cassation&nbsp;is an important moment for survivors and families of victims of chemical weapons in Syria, and a milestone in accountability for the crimes committed by former President Bashar al-Assad against the Syrian people.&nbsp;The outcome of this hearing will reach beyond Syria and the Syrian people. The judges in Paris have the opportunity to signal that there must always be accountability for crimes that shock the conscience.
